Media

Images, shapes, and in-cell media — the decoration and annotation layer of the canvas.

Beyond data objects, the canvas holds free-floating images and shapes, and table cells can carry media of their own.

Images, video, and audio

Insert → Media… places an image, video, or audio file on the canvas (up to 10 MB); pasting an image from the clipboard does the same. Video and audio play right on the canvas — drag the card by its edge. The bytes are embedded in the document (not linked by path), so a .dsheet file is fully self-contained — share it and the media travels along.

The same dialog takes a YouTube, Vimeo, or Loom link instead: paste the video's ordinary share link and it plays in that site's player on the canvas (a ?t= start time on a YouTube link is kept). A linked video is not embedded — the document stores only the link, so it stays small, but playing it needs an internet connection.

Shapes

Insert → Shape offers Rectangle, Ellipse, Triangle, Arrow, and Line, each with stroke color, fill color, and stroke width. Use them to group regions of a dashboard, point at the number that matters, or divide a canvas into zones.

Arranging media

Images and shapes move and resize like any card, and additionally support:

  • Z-order — bring to front, send forward, send backward, send to back. New media sits below tables and tiles by default, so a big rectangle behind a cluster of cards works as a background panel without stealing clicks.
  • Rotation — a rotation knob on the selected card; arrows and lines can point wherever they need to.

Media in table cells

A table cell can hold an image or video: paste into the cell or use the cell's media panel, which shows a preview (videos are playable right in the panel), the file name and type, pixel dimensions, and embedded size, with replace and remove. A product table with a thumbnail column stays one self-contained file.

Tile backgrounds

Tiles can carry a background image as part of their styling — see Tiles. Combined with rich text and hidden titles, that covers most "make this dashboard look designed" needs without leaving the app.
