Connectors

Hand-drawn labeled arrows between canvas cards — annotate the flow you mean, styled and saved with the document.

A connector is an arrow you draw between two cards — table to chart, script to table, anything to anything. Where the automatic lineage arrows show what the document computes, connectors show what you mean: "this feeds that", "compare these", "start here". They're saved in the .dsheet, and every change to one is undoable.

Drawing one

Insert → Shape → ⤳ Connector between cards… (or run Connector… from the Command Palette). The status bar then walks you through it:

  1. Click the card the arrow starts from — it highlights.
  2. Click the card the arrow points to.

Esc cancels, as does clicking empty canvas. Picking the same card twice just asks for a different one.

The arrow attaches to the facing edges of the two cards and re-snaps as either card moves or resizes — drag a card around and its connectors follow live. There's nothing to reposition by hand.

Label and style

  • Double-click a connector to give it a label, shown at the arrow's midpoint. Leave the text blank to remove it.
  • Right-click for the menu: Label…, Style…, and Delete.

Style… opens a picker for:

  • Color — the same text-color swatches used elsewhere.
  • Width — 1, 2, 3, or 5 px.
  • Line — solid, dashed, or dotted.
  • Arrows — head at the far end (the default), the near end, both ends, or none (a plain line).
  • Route — how the arrow travels: straight (a direct line), right angles (an elbow of horizontal and vertical runs, the flowchart look), or curved. Default follows the document setting below.

Each pick applies immediately and is its own undo step.

Setting the route for the whole document

View → Default Format… → Connectors & arrows picks the route every connector uses unless it sets its own — and it applies to the automatic lineage arrows too, which have no style of their own. Choose "Right angles" there and the whole canvas reads as a flowchart in one step.

A connector that picked its own route in Style… keeps it; set that connector back to Default to hand it back to the document setting.

Connectors vs. lineage arrows

One quirk worth knowing: a connector's ends are the two cards themselves, so if an endpoint card is deleted (or lives on another tab), the arrow simply isn't drawn — it isn't deleted, and comes back if the card does.
