DreamSheets Cloud
The built-in cloud drive — sign in, save and open documents online, share with permissions, sync live, merge divergent copies, and restore old versions.
DreamSheets Cloud is the app's own drive: documents stored online under your account, shareable by email with view/edit permissions, with live sync, real merges, and version history. It's entirely optional — the app never requires an account, and everything else works signed out.
.dsheet files in SharePoint, Google Drive, or OneDrive. Those are ordinary files in your provider's storage; DreamSheets Cloud is a drive that understands what's inside the documents.Signing in
File → Sign In to DreamSheets Cloud… — three ways in, all equal:
- Email and password. Type them and Sign In, or Create Account to make one (passwords are at least 8 characters). If your account needs confirming, click the emailed link on this computer and the app finishes signing in by itself.
- Continue with Google. Consent happens in your browser; the app picks the session up automatically.
- Email me a sign-in link. No password at all — click the link on this computer.
Forgot your password? Sign in with an emailed link, then set a new one under Password on your account page. That's also where a Google account can add a password, so either door works afterwards.
File → Sign Out of DreamSheets Cloud forgets the session on this machine.
Signed out, the File menu shows just the Sign In entry. Signed in, the cloud commands below appear.
Saving and opening
File → Save to Cloud… uploads the open document. A new document gets a name and destination folder (you can create folders right in the dialog); a document that's already a cloud doc updates in place, versioned — each save is a checkpoint you can restore later. If a cloud document with the same name already exists, DreamSheets asks whether this file is that document (say, a copy you downloaded and edited offline) and offers Update — one document, one history — or Save as New Copy….
File → Open from Cloud… lists your drive as a folder tree, including documents others have shared with you (labeled with the owner's email). Files uploaded through the web drive that aren't documents show up too, but open only from the web. The ✕ on each row deletes a document or folder from the cloud — permanently, after a confirmation.
Your drive is also on the web at dreamsheets.app/drive, where you can upload, download, and open documents in the browser editor.
Sharing & permissions
File → Share… shows who has access: the owner, plus anyone added by email as a Viewer or an Editor — the same dialog as the Share button in your Drive on the web. A third role, Limited editor, confines someone to the tabs and sections you tick: Full edit lets them change anything inside those (but not delete the tab or section itself), Data only lets them change values in tables — add, edit, paste and delete rows — but not table structure, layout or formatting. Pick it from the app with the document open, since that's where its tabs are listed; the Drive shows limited editors as such. Roles can be changed or removed at any time. Sharing a document that isn't in the cloud yet saves it there first, since that's what the people you invite open. A document with no grants of its own inherits access from its parent folder — sharing a folder shares everything in it, and adding people directly to a document overrides the folder's access for that document.
Anyone with the link
The same dialog has an Anyone with the link switch: set it to Viewer or Editor, hit Copy link, and anyone you send it to gets that role when they open it. They do need a DreamSheets account — signing in is free, and it is what keeps every edit attributable to a person.
The link is the document's own address and never changes, so turning link sharing off and back on revives a link you already sent. Turning it Off is the revoke.
People you named individually keep their own role: name someone Viewer on a document whose link says Editor and they stay a viewer. Link-sharing a folder shares everything inside it, and a document's own setting overrides the folder's.
A link-shared document does not appear in anyone's drive until they open the link — the link is the secret, so nothing is listed to people who were never given one.
Sync Changes — live co-editing
File → Sync Changes connects the open cloud doc to its live session: your edits stream to everyone else who has it synced, and theirs stream to you, in real time. Someone with only view access joins read-only and watches edits apply live. File → Stop Syncing returns to working locally — Save to Cloud still pushes on demand.
Only one live session runs at a time.
While synced, you can see who else has the document open: the card each collaborator has selected carries a colored outline and a name chip, moving live as they work. Marks disappear the moment someone disconnects, and everyone's edits stay attributable in version history.
When copies diverge
Edit a cloud document offline while someone else saves to the cloud, and your copy's base falls behind. DreamSheets never silently overwrites: Save to Cloud refuses, a banner appears, and you choose —
- Merge with Cloud Version… — the full merge view: every difference laid out per table, tile, and chart, with a Cloud/Local toggle to see each side, and an accept-local / keep-cloud / keep-both choice on each item. Ctrl+Z reverts the last resolution. Only one person can merge a document at a time. Finishing commits the merged result as the new cloud version.
- Save My Version as a New Cloud Document… — keeps your version as its own new cloud document (named "… (offline copy)") and leaves the cloud one alone.
The refusal dialog summarizes what changed on each side (rows added, deleted, edited, in conflict) and who made the cloud changes, so you can pick with your eyes open.
Version History
File → Version History… (on an open cloud doc) toggles a left-docked panel listing the document's saved versions — one per cloud save, restore, or completed merge — grouped by day, each with its author and time. Open on any row opens that version for editing; it stays tied to the document, so saving it merges back into the latest through the same divergence flow rather than forking a copy. Restoring requires edit access.
History is kept on an automatic retention policy: the newest 20 versions are always kept, plus the newest version from each day of the last 30 days (and the live version, always). Older checkpoints are pruned automatically after a save — there's nothing to clean up by hand.
Storage limit
Each account gets 5 GB of cloud storage, counted across every document you own, including the blobs kept for version history (old versions are pruned automatically, which frees their space). Shared documents count against their owner, not you.
If a save is rejected because you're at the cap, delete something you no longer need, or email support@dreamsheets.app and we'll raise it.
